Pre-Participation Sports Testing
What is it?
Athletes train hard to improve their strength, speed and agility to maximize their performance on the field. Unfortunately, sometimes injuries become a part of competing in sports. The testing we provide is at the beginning of the season so we can get objective measurements for where you are at. We test your strength, speed and agility, then utilize those numbers down the road, should an injury occur.
Why is this essential?
After suffering an injury, and even more so if you have to undergo surgery, there is an immediate loss in strength, speed, power, and agility. Most treatment rehabbing the injury uses the uninvolved limb for goals. So if you tear your right ACL, they use the left leg’s strength to set goals and make return to play decisions. The problem with this is that the uninvolved limb suffers a loss in strength from the injury and subsequent pauses is training. This can lead to inappropriate decisions such as athletes returning too early which could then open them up to the possibility of re-injury and missing more of their sport season.
By gathering objective data on your strength, speed, power and agility prior to any potential injury, should disaster strike, we will be able to set real return to play goals. This will allow you to return to your sport at the correct time and greatly reduce the risk of re-injury, allowing you to play more and stay healthy.
Does my insurance cover this?
No, it does not which is why we provide this service FOR FREE. Sports were a huge part in our lives growing up and continue to be. We want to give back to the community and the athletes in it to provide assessments to best help them get back to the sports they love, should they get hit with an injury. There are no strings attached and we will not try and push “special deals” on you. If you are interested, call today to schedule a time for testing, or if you would like more information, give us a call and we will be more than happy to answer your questions.
What if I don’t get hurt?
Congratulations! This is obviously the desired outcome as we do not want anyone to get hurt. There are still benefits from testing as we can use the results to identify areas of weakness that can be addressed to improve your performance. Those can be discussed with the athlete and training principles/guidelines can be provided as well as one on one training in the clinic to improve your performance. These are available in different packages that if you are interested we could discuss prior to or during testing.
Are you a coach interested in this service?
Please reach out to tavin@rtpphysicaltherapy.com to schedule a time to get your athletes tested. We can perform testing on Saturdays as needed to accommodate a school schedule and get your athletes in to be seen. This will overall aid in rehabbing your athletes and could give you insight to the athletes’ strength and areas for improvement, should they consent to sharing the results.
Help us, help you make the best return to play decisions and schedule your assessment.
